A Dell Laptop for Back-to-School Under $375

Let’s face it, technology is almost inescapable at this point. And, technology is playing a bigger role in elementary to grad school settings. Technology is changing the way educators teach and how students learn, and how they communicate with their fellow classmates, teachers, professors, coaches, and academic advisors- that’s why it’s important to have the right tools to get the full benefits of the increasing trend of technology in the classroom.

B and H carries a wide range of technology tools that can help students of all ages seize learning and get the most out of the new school year. You won’t have to break the bank either. Most students just need a device that allows them to browse the web, share their thoughts on educational forums, make presentations, write papers, and watch supplemental videos. They’re not going to need something super expensive for these basic functions. However, if you’re a college student or a grad school student and studying an area such as video production, graphic design, or an area of science the processes vast volumes of data, then you’re probably going to need a laptop (or a desktop) with more power, speed, and capabilities.

However, the Dell 15.6″ Inspiron 15 5000 Series Notebook is a great laptop for most student performing everyday tasks. The laptop is powered by a  2.4 GHz Intel Core i3-7100U dual-core processor and has 8GB of DDR4 RAM, as well as integrated Intel HD graphics. It comes equipped with 1TB of storage, which is plenty for most students, but it also gives you the option to expand if your storage needs grow- all you have to do is pop in an SD card into the laptop’s card slot or attach an external hard drive or flash storage drive into its USB ports.

One thing that’s really nice about this laptop is its 15.6″ screen. It has a 1366 x 768 resolution which is great for watching TED talks, educational videos, or catching up on your favorite TV shows.

However, while the screen isn’t as large as some of the 17″ or 18″ (or 19″ or 20″) models on the market, the display is a good size for students who have to commute and take their laptop with them from school to extracurricular activities to friends’ homes and finally, their own homes because it nicely fits into most backpacks, large tote bags, and messenger bags.

In terms of inputs and outputs, the Dell Inspiron has one USB 3.0 Type-A port for fast data transfers and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports that allow you to charge your smartphone and upload photos from a digital camera, insert a flash drive, add new songs to a dedicated audio device and more. It even has on HDMI port which allows you to connect the Dell laptop to a monitor or an HDTV.

In terms, of audio, there is a 1 x 1/8″ (3.5mm) headphone/microphone combination jack and a built-in speaker and microphone. The Dell also has an integrated webcam, so you can connect with your friends, classmates, and family over Wi-Fi through a video calling app like Skype. The laptop runs on Windows 10 Home and comes equipped with Cortona, Microsoft’s digital personal assistant.

Not sure if this is the right back-to-school laptop for you? The experts you trust at B and H can help you find the right laptop at the right price.
